Welcome, Maria Tedesco

Strong, principled leadership has always been a hallmark of Atlantic Union Bank. Now, with the addition of new bank president Maria Tedesco, we’re adding strength to strength.

Maria has long been known in the banking industry as an effective, principled, innovative leader. And while her experience and philosophy perfectly complement that of Atlantic Union Bank’s existing senior leadership team, Maria also brings a unique perspective as one of the most highly respected women in the banking industry.

Among her many career accomplishments, Maria has received multiple accolades from American Banker magazine. She was named one of the most powerful women in banking as part of a team award in 2012 and 2017, and in 2015 was named one of the most powerful women to watch.

Maria will be leading the commercial banking, business banking, consumer banking and wealth management teams, as well as enterprise-wide functions of marketing, digital strategy and customer experience.

Maria truly understands the needs of the customer.

Growing up in a small town outside of Boston, Maria worked in her family’s award-winning restaurant, doing everything from washing dishes to waiting tables. It was there she learned the importance of understanding each customer’s needs and expectations.

After earning her MBA from Northeastern University, Maria started a banking career that took her all the way from leading the marketing team at a small community bank near Harvard University to her role as COO for retail at BMO Harris Bank in Chicago – and now to Atlantic Union Bank.

“It came down to what was important to me,” Maria says. “And Atlantic Union Bank checked all the boxes. It has a great reputation, top-tier performance, a customer-centric mindset and the prospect to grow.”

Giving back and mentoring are very important to Maria. She has served on boards for organizations such as the YMCA, Girl Scouts of America, Big Sisters and Project Bread. She also lends her experience to young women looking to make their mark in banking. “My advice is how I live my life personally and professionally: Set goals, go after them, speak up, be resilient and be good to others.”
