In 2018, John and his wife, Baileigh, conceptualized starting their own business – a utility contracting company specializing in the installation of gas, power, communications, sewer and water lines.
With John’s employment experience in the industry, and the partnership of two good friends who are successful local business owners and Class A contractors, Cross Underground Development was born. In a few short years, their hard work and determination transformed Cross Underground from its humble beginnings in John’s garage into a thriving operation with 25 plus employees and a fleet of over 15 equipment vehicles. The primary focus? Safety for Hampton Roads.
While the business originated as a partnership, it soon became time for John and his family to fly on their own. With a vision to expand, John put his trust in Atlantic Union Bank (AUB) and in his business banker Angela Sadsad to assist with a partner buyout. Eager to find the right solution, Angela worked with AUB’s SBA Lending team to secure an SBA 7(a) loan that not only funded that partner buyout, but also restructured existing debt, and provided an SBA Express line of credit for working capital. As Cross Underground continues to grow, we continue to provide. Recently AUB was able to increase that credit line to assist them with growing cash flow needs stemming from new contracts with major utility companies.
