Back in 2007, brothers Keith, Jay and Jeff Nichols went looking for a new bank. Their existing bank, they felt, just wasn’t fully supportive of their plans to grow.

But with John Young – currently Atlantic Union Bank’s Regional President, Western Region – the family found a banker who was willing to work as hard as they were to build on the strong foundation their father had established when he launched HandCraft back in 1970.

John has been helping guide the Nichols family and HandCraft every step of the way by:

  • arranging the financing that enabled HandCraft to purchase over $10 million in specialized laundry equipment while still maintaining necessary liquidity;
  • putting together the real estate and business expansion loans they used to build a state-of-the-art facility on Cofer Road in Richmond;
  • helping them expand their retail medical plant in Virginia…and build a new plant in High Point, North Carolina; and
  • being a trusted advisor as they evolved the company from a hard-working local dry cleaning business into a leader in the sophisticated healthcare linen industry.

In addition, the Nichols family depended on John’s financial guidance and expertise as they reimagined and recreated HandCraft’s iconic original site into an adaptive reuse project that has won architectural awards while becoming a magnet for a commercial tenants.
